For a long time, animal poetry, particularly that of the fabulist, has been devoted to drawing agreeable portraits of “our friends the beasts”. It was time to continue our unprejudiced examination of this kingdom that is so close to our own. This is what these Fabules are all about, teeming with revelations about some fifty familiar, often little-known and sometimes justly unloved animals. The logic of their world has been too often neglected. The poems and collages in this book fill the gap.
